Thor: Ragnarok Is Family Friendly Fun – Review
During last year’s Captain America: Civil War, some of our favorite Avengers were noticeably missing from that famous airport battle. Turns out they were off dealing with tasks of their own, and in Thor: Ragnarok we get to see the God of Thunder take care of business.
Who needs the Avengers, Thor is all about assembling his own team. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor Odinson and finds himself in need of help and he begins by enlisting his green friend from work to help him out. Mark Ruffalo returns as the big guy, who now has more to do than just smash. Believe me there’s a lot of smashing, but Hulk’s heart is showing through in this film and he gets in a few great lines as well. The Thor Hulk team up that works so well, fans will want to see more from this amazing duo in the future.
In addition to Hulk we are introduced to Valkyrie played by Tessa Thompson. A new hero with a storied Asgardian history. Thor has looked up to the Valkyrie warriors his whole life and he’s finally met his match with her as far as pure Asgardian loyalty and power.
And of course, no Thor story is complete without an appearance from the God of Mischief. Everyone’s brother they love to hate returns as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki steals the scenes in more ways than one, making his presence known and necessary throughout the story.
While much of the team’s entertaining action takes place on the junkyard planet of Saakar—ruled by the inimitable Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster—the real task at hand is to battle Hela, the Goddess of Death.
Hela makes her debut as the Marvel cinematic universe’s first female villain, and her take no prisoners attitude makes her one of the biggest and the baddest yet. Her style and fierce power light up the screen thanks to Cate Blanchett’s fiery performance.
Thor: Ragnarok is filled with humor, fun, and downright joy, which can be attributed to the direction of Taika Waititi, who brings a fresh take to the Marvel universe and give fans a Thor that they’ve never seen before.
The film has a glorious overlay of color, costumes, and backgrounds which are all nods to the great Jack Kirby, a Marvel legend who created the comic book worlds we know and love.
Thor: Ragnarok is a great film for families, filled with laugh out loud jokes, and a lot of fun surprises.
