Girl’s Day cupcakes
Girl’s Day is March 3rd and although it’s a Japanese holiday it’s something we always celebrated here, even though our family is over four generations. What I remember most about Girl’s Day was displaying hand made dolls and treats. Oh the treats! Candies, mochi and little rice puffs called Hina-Arare which are sweetened rice crackers. They are whitened to look like snow and taste like sugary rice krispies.
ingredients:
Mochi cupcakes
vanilla buttercream
hina-arare
Everything looks cuter in Hello Kitty packaging, don’t you think? At Japanese markets they always have a ton of themed food items for the holidays. These Hello Kitty hina-arare are a little bigger than the average size.
I arranged the hina arare on top of frosted mochiko cupcakes for a nice, crunchy top. These cupcakes are a sweet way to celebrate Girl’s Day!
